Outreach

JANUARY - FEBRUARY

Engineering & Design Club at SMS

We are teaching an Engineering and Design club after school at Sharon Middle School, in which participant students will learn about the Engineering and Design Process, Computer Aided Design, and 3D printing.

NOVEMBER - END OF FLL SEASON

FLL SYRA

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, SYRA, a local FLL scrimmage organization couldn't be run. But, along with a local FLL team, we took initiative and decided to run the program virtually. We hold our meetings on every other Monday. During our meetings we covered rules, updates, and advice on team's robots. If you're an FLL team, sign up here: https://forms.gle/Vj8oGoGPJWNTPHVE6

SEPTEMBER / FEBUARY:

ENB and outreach WEbinar & CAD Webinar

Upon learning of social-distancing restrictions, we worked as a team to brainstorm how we could continue our outreach mission given our usual community showcase events (small events we go to to showcase our robot and talk about our team) not happening. Through brainstorming, we recognized our experience with outreach and documentation and we decided that we wanted to help FTC teams who are unsure of how this season will work deal with the changes and constraints of the remote nature.

AUGUST - SEPTEMBER:

HTML Camp w/ sharon Library

We taught the basics of the markup language HTML in a one-week long class through the Sharon Public Library. Normally, we would do this in person at the library so that we could teach in person, however we did this over Zoom.

JULY - AUGUST:

IFSI CODING CLASS

Over the summer, a major part of our outreach is our teaching program we run with IFSI, or the Immigrant Family Services Institute. Normally this program would be run in a facility in Roslindale, with a curriculum based around robotics, but this year we had to adapt for a fully online program. We decided to run a 6 week long course for middle-schoolers where we taught the fundamentals of Python, which culminated in students presenting their projects in a showcase to parents.

For a more in-depth view on what we will do next, with dates and times, go to the Schedule page.
