Post-event:
The Connecticut Conquest FTC State Championship was, as
always, a smashing success! Despite falling a little behind schedule, we
all enjoyed many rounds of intense competition, a great lunch, and the company
of some fantastic FTC teams!

Venue and Directions
The tournament will be held in two gymnasiums at KO, located at 170 Kingswood
Road in West Hartford, Conn. If you Google or MapQuest directions to this
address, it will bring you to the front of the School, and unloading your robot,
tools and other belongings will be difficult. I recommend that you use the
School’s address to get from I-84 to Trout Brook Drive north. There are two
well-marked entrances to the rear parking lot of the School on Trout Brook
Drive. The following link will take you to a map of the area and a campus map:
http://www.kingswoodoxford.org/podium/default.aspx?t=12565.
Schedule
The tournament will run from approximately 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday,
March 3. The following is a tentative schedule for the day. A more detailed
scheduled will be posted as the event nears.
Team Check-in 7:30-8:15 a.m.
Judging Interviews 8-10 a.m.
Drivers’/Coaches’ Meeting 9:45 a.m.
Opening Ceremonies 10 a.m.
Qualifying Matches 10:30 a.m.
Elimination Rounds 2:30 p.m.
Awards and Closing Ceremonies 4:30 p.m.
Lunch
As in years past, the KO cafeteria will have a lunch available that will include
soup, salad and sandwich bars along with a beverage of your choice. We encourage
you to prepay your lunches at a reduced rate of $8 per person. The day of the
tournament, additional lunch tickets will be available on a first-come,
first-served basis for $10. Please have your check for prepaid lunches in no
later than Friday, Feb. 17. Please include your team number on the check, make
it payable to Kingswood Oxford School and send it to:
Kingswood Oxford School

Introduction of Your Team
Please prepare a short blurb that the master of ceremonies can use to introduce
your team during the competition. In the past, teams have provided their name,
number, where they are from, how long they have been together, why this
particular group is together, past awards your team has earned and a fun or
unique story about your team. Please e-mail your blurb to robotics@k-o.org no
later than Friday, Feb. 17.
Promote and Compass Awards
It is planned that awards will be given for the two optional video categories:
the FIRST Tech Challenge Promote Award and the FIRST Tech Challenge Compass
Award. Descriptions of the awards and judging criteria are available in the game
manual.
Please submit videos in accordance with the following instructions:
• Submit your team’s videos via DVD.
• Submit a separate DVD for each video.
• Label each DVD with your team name, team number and award.
• Make sure that the DVDs can be played on both a Macintosh and a PC prior to
submission.
• Use the highest resolution possible.
• If you are using music or pictures that are not your own, please make sure
that all necessary credit is given.
Timeline
• We would appreciate receiving all videos no later than Friday, Feb. 17. FIRST
allows for submission up to a week prior to the tournament, however, to provide
time for judging, we are requesting an earlier submission deadline.
• We will accept videos as late as Friday, Feb. 24 if you let us know by Feb. 17
that it will be here.
Please submit your videos to:
Kingswood Oxford School

Things to Bring
Consent and Release Forms – The FIRST Consent and Release Form must be completed
by each team member and signed by a parent/guardian. In addition, a consent form
must be completed by coaches and other adults who will be in the pit area. The
forms will be collected at the registration table upon team arrival. Even if
your team has already completed forms for another event, a new one is required
for the Connecticut Conquest. The forms can be found on the FIRST Web site at:
http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/ftc/documentlibrary.
Safety Glasses – Everyone entering the pit area must wear safety glasses.
Engineering Notebook – Your engineering notebook will be collected during
registration and given to the judges. Please make sure that your team name and
number are prominently displayed on the outside of your notebook.
Tools – You will want to bring tools to work on your robot in the pits.
Signs and Decorations for Your Pit Table – You will want to display your team’s
accomplishments and spirit. You may bring banners for your pit or to hold up in
the competition area. We ask that you please refrain from decorating walls,
bleachers or any part of the building with stickers, buttons, etc.
Robot Size
The robot must fit into a sizing box 18-by-18-by-18 inches. It is allowed to
expand but must begin each match within these limits.
Samantha
If your team is having difficulty with Samantha, please try to resolve all
issues prior to the tournament to ensure a smooth and fun day for all.
Assistance is available on the FIRST Web site at:
http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/ftc/samantha.
Game Q-and-A Forum
Questions about the game can be answered through the FIRST forum at:
http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/ftc/gameqainstructions.
Bill of Material
In accordance with the game manual, all parts listing in <R5>c that have a
maximum constraint and that are used in the robot must be tracked through a Bill
of Material (BOM). This list MUST be submitted at inspection, and a copy should
be included in your engineering notebook. A sample BOM is included in Section 8
of the game manual.
Wi-Fi
Teams will NOT be allowed to run their own Wi-Fi router or ad-hoc network at any
tournaments. Two separate networks will be running: one exclusively for the
competition fields, the other for team use in the pits and practice area.
For More Information
If you have any questions about the Connecticut Conquest, please e-mail them to
